It's a New Dawn and a New (Birth)Day

If there’s one thing we can all agree on right now, it’s that 2020 hasn’t exactly played out like most of us expected. I started out this year fresh off a ten-year celebration of Plumb Creative, with big goals of growth as a creative consultant, managing high-tech brands and big retainer clients. Needless to say, COVID changed the landscape of business, not only for myself but my clients as well, multiple times. While it seemed the rest of the world hit pause, I felt like I was busier than ever, scrambling to figure out what to do next and how to adjust, while still working on my mom’s book as well as other design projects. I’ve watched other entrepreneurs during this time adjusting too, starting new services within their businesses or quitting corporate jobs to launch something they are passionate about. It seems while we’ve had to change everything around us, there is something changing within us as well.

I was reaching the point of burnout when I had a minor procedure done on my knee in September. This forced me to take about ten days off to rest and recover. And do a lot of thinking and reflecting. The same week, the Almeda fire hit Southern Oregon and destroyed thousands of people’s homes and businesses. I was going through some journal prompts when I read this question: If you only had three years to do some kind of creative work, but then could never do it again, what would it be? In light of the fires, I had also been thinking about what would be the most important things in my home for me to grab if I had only minutes to do so? All I cared about was my writing and my photographs. My stories, my memorable moments of almost four decades in this life. And if I only had a short time left to do anything important, writing was it.

I love writing and I love design. Plumb Creative started as a blog for my ideas and words, as well as a graphic design business. The core of it is me, all the ways I’m inspired and all the things that come from that inspiration. I want to capture the moments that inspire me. I want to write about this one wild and precious life that I get to live. I want to create memorable moments, to be inspired each and every day to live a good story. And I want to help others do that too.

Today I turn 39 years old. The landscape of my creative career and life has altered and shifted throughout my journey, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t slightly terrified at choosing to put all my efforts into my own work. To give up a huge part of my business to focus on making things that ignite passion, change, and inspiration in not only myself, but you, the world. Like C.S. Lewis said:

“You are never too old to set another goal, or to dream a new dream.”

I’m reviving Plumb Creative to be a source of that inspiration— ideas, tools, and resources to connect you to a life you love. To help you discover who you really are, discover purpose and joy in each day, to help you connect to your truest Self, and subsequently, to each other. To live a good story. A Life, Inspired.
